The historical traces of the Chinese community in Indonesia are always interesting to examine. Let’s take a look at various Chinatowns and Chinese historical sites across the country.

1. Kembang Jepun Surabaya

The old region of Kembang Jepun is located on the banks of the River Kalimas, not far from Tanjung Perak Harbour. This strategic location made it easy for the inhabitants to get the wheels of business turning here, especially regarding the distribution of goods to islands in the eastern part of Indonesia.

Although its golden age has long passed, Kembang Jepun remains an active business hub. Locals still utilise the area as a wholesale centre and, in addition to the ever spinning cogs of capital, the old temple that remains here still faithfully serve active congregations, stage Chinese shadow-puppet shows and run barongsai (dragon dance) courses.

2. Singkawang, West Kalimantan

The Capgome celebrations that take place in Singkawang every year are the largest in Indonesia. Visitors are entertained by shamans who parade through the city streets while performing acts of debus magic. Music fills the air as barongsai dragons snake through town and prayers float up into the sky accompanied by joss-stick smoke.

Singkawang lies a three-hour drive from Pontianak and is often referred to as the, “City of a Thousand Temples”. There are actually only 600 temples in town but these are enough to make it the largest Chinatown in Indonesia. The grandest building here is undoubtedly the Tri Dharma Bumi Raya.

3. Kesawan, Medan

Before 1880, the village of Kesawan was inhabited by Malay people. Then, the Chinese arrived from Malacca and China and turned the area into a Chinatown. After a large fire which destroyed the village’s wooden houses in 1889, the Chinese inhabitants constructed two-storey-shop houses, some of which still survive today.

The most conspicuous building in Medan’s Chinatown is the Tjong A Fie Mansion. This palace, once inhabited by a rich businessman, is located on the right side of the street, next to the Medan Tourism Office. Tjong A Fie was the son of a trader from the village of Moy Hian in Canton in China. When his father died, he came to Deli and set up some tobacco plantations.

4. Gang Baru, Semarang

The city of Semarang was once an immigration gateway into Central Java. Back in the fifteenth century, the legendary Chinese admiral, Cheng Ho (also known as Zheng He), stopped by here during his many voyages to an amazing 40 countries. Semarang has erected a statue of Cheng Ho at the Sam Po Kong temple in order to commemorate and pay tribute to this famous seaman.

There are at least ten large temples in the Gang Baru area of Semarang with Siu Hok Bio, which was built in 1753, being the oldest. One of the best times to visit this area is the day before Chinese New Year, when the Gang Baru Market is open 24 hours round the clock serving locals looking to stock up on all their festive needs.

5. Petak Sembilan, Jakarta

Located in the Kota Tua (Old Town) area of the capital, Petak Sembilan exudes classic Chinatown ambience through its narrow roads and rows of dainty, Chinese-style houses. The area is seemingly always busy, especially during Chinese holidays, and shoppers from all over Jakarta come here for their traditional ceremonial needs. Petak Sembilan’s most famous icon is the Dharma Bhakti Temple, which was built in the seventeenth century on a 3000-square-metre plot of land.

Bali is situated within the Sunda Islands and also the western end of the small, roughly diamond -formed, spindle towards the West.Indonesia due to a brief history of Indian culture through the influence of religion, mostly Hindu population, may be the only Hindu devote in Indonesia. But here with the Indian Hindu Hinduism is not exactly the same, the Hindu teachings and customs from the mixture of Indonesia, referred to as Indonesia Hindu.

Its obvious running streams with eco-friendly mountain tops in most seasons, flowers blooming, tall trees standing into sky. Individuals Indonesia philosophers of existence. Spending so much time, taking pleasure in food, sleeping quietly, coping with my way through harmony, taking pleasure in every minutes of existence, simple and easy , relax existence- lengthy. Besides tour (points of interest are even non-priority activity), water activities, food, culture, hotels, boating…Bali group tour cannot provide a number of these activities. Indonesia food for instance, besides food, services, tableware will also be goes for your meal experience. To completely enjoy her, many of these entertainment products ought to be combined flexibly together. Only private tour could make your enjoy Indonesia thorough.

Why choose private tour to Bali? Many travel agencies only surrounding points of interest in Bali make serious mistake. They introduced Bali by using traditional way however group tour isn’t appropriate to tour Bali!

Other then tour (even points of interest aren’t first priority activity), hotels, culture, food, water activities, Health spa, bars, moving, watching dolphin, surfing, diving, volcano climbing, boating, etc, the majority of individuals activities are group tour not able to supply. Lets’ discuss food in Indonesia as example, meals are only some of it eating atmosphere, services, and even tableware are areas of your meals experience. To possess a real good time, you need to flexibly mix each one of these entertainment products together. It’s okay to state, only Bali Tour Package enables you to definitely enjoy Bali through.

Dealing with Bali is fairly simple from the country and plane tickets leave daily, although a stopover might be needed from certain areas. You will find no Bali visa needs should you hold a passport of among the Indonesian states and many other excellent could possibly get a visa easily. VOA (visas on arrival) will be offered at the airport terminal whenever you land and price between $10 and $25 depending how lengthy you’re remaining, a $25 visa provides you with 30days. Never overstay your visa because the Indonesian nations are extremely stern if this involves this.

Bali can be very cheap with superb value, specifically for budget accommodation and budget plane tickets. Do book ahead of time to obtain a good deal for the accommodation and plane tickets. Air Asia is well-recognized to provide cheap plane tickets to Indonesia should you book early ahead of time. Do sort through all of the online travel specialists to find the best hotel prices before you decide to book your accommodation online.

Treat your taste buds for different things and check out eating inside small traditional roadside eateries. Even though they may look unhygienic, believe me, their safety to consume. However, in recent times, Seminyak is no longer like that. It is now famous for its clean, white beach, funky and elegant boutiques and bars and nightclubs.

Seminyak’s ever-rising number of galleries has also rapidly turned the village into becoming a mecca for the art lovers. There are plenty of famous galleries such as, the Society Gallery, Oxyzen and the Lukisan art galleries etc.

It is a matter of discourse whether Seminyak grew from within and dre in new investors to enter the scene or enterprising people from outside come and develop it into becoming “the most fashionable area in Bali”. Plenty of shoppers and buyers of Balinese furniture are found in the Jalan Raya Seminyak (also referred to as Jalan Legian) bisects the district and acts as its main artery road.

Seminyak is indeed the place to be when you are in Bali and somehow, you just can’t go wrong in Seminyak.

There is a special place called Secret Garden. Secret Garden is the name for a lovely, hidden pool in the headwaters of the Banyumala.

To go there, we have to Cengana village about three kilometers south. Along the way, we can see coconut trees and the green, terraced rice fields which are typical of Bali. There is a big difference between farmers in Java and Bali. In Bali, no women working in the fields or planting rice; this is all done by men, while the women stay at home.

Some villagers also plant some cacao plants in their gardens. There are two types of cacao. One is maroon and the other is green, turning yellow as it matures. The flesh of the yellow ones taste sweet when sucked. Then, as we enter the village of Pebantenan, we don’t only see cacao plants but also cloves and coffee plants with fragrant white flowers.

As we go downhill, there is a special pond in the valley. It is called Tibu Buana Sari. It is located at the base of the valley. The serene atmosphere and the dense forest make it an ideal place to soak and bathe. The water from this pond flows to a waterfall, called Aling-Aling and then, becomes the Banyumala River. The local people consider this a holy river and use this river and this pond to soak, bathe or just wash their faces. The Banyumala itself means ” water to purify the soul and the body”.

Let me share you some travel tips to Singapore if you plan to visit it in the near future. So, here they are:

1. Clothes: When exploring, wear light cotton short sleeved shirts and light long pants. Slip on shoes are best for temples and mosques. Avoid shorts or bikinis if you can, as local people tend to dress more modestly outside of beaches and parks, and may not appreciate the display of too much skin inside places of worship.

2. Bring suitable amounts of water, your camera and a bag for your shopping. Outlets give away too many plastic bags, but try to avoid needlessly taking them.

3. Buy a “top up” MRT card at the first station you visit for ease of travel. You can increase the value on these as you use them. the magnetic strip is swiped at each exit and entrance to the train station, and on buses. Alternatively, pay as you go at any kiosks, by pressing the destination stop you desire. Your green card can be exchanged at the same kiosks at the end, for the return of a $1 deposit.

4. Phone a taxi if you get lost, or end up waiting too long. Expect a booking fee of around $3.20.

5. Avoid rush hours in the morning and evening. Travel after 9:30 am until 4:30 pm. Then, after 7:30, explore the cool enclaves at night. Clarke Quay is best enjoyed at night.

6. Eat small meals regularly. This will help you have more energy to move about, and allow you greater variety.

7. At hot times, explore the cooler museums and heritage centers associated with many of the heritage centers.

8. Learn a little about the taboos of each culture, but don’t be too afraid, people are fairly forgiving of crazy tourists.

9. Enquire to Singapore Tourism Board at one of several visitor center.

It is located in the central foothills of the Gianyar Regency. It has narrow streets full of backpackers and tourists buses which cause traffic jams.

Elegant five-star hotels, villas and luxury mansions now stand on its prime areas. They make Ubud the best place to use as a base on your visit to bali looking for culture, comfort, nature and inspiration. Ubud offers panoramic rice fields, small but charming villages, art and craft communities and ancient temples and palaces.

Ubud has a population of about 8,000 – 12, 000 people. It is famous as a source of medicinal herbs and plants. That is how the place gets its name which is the Balinese word for medicine.

Tourism on the island developed fast after the arrival of foreign painters such as Walter Spies Willem Hofker and Rudolf Bonnet to the area. Celebrities like Charlie Chaplin, Barbara Hutton and H.G. Wells came to the village and spread the good word when they returned to their western countries.

There are some museums that are worth visiting such as Museum Puri Lukisan, Museum Neka, Rudana Museum and Agung Rai Museum of Art.

The Ubud Atmosphere is perhaps the major attraction. So, enjoy the unique atmosphere in Ubud. There is a saying that you have not been to Bali if you haven’t visited Ubud.

They are called the Thousand Islands because they seem so numerous although there are over 105 islands there. It is a paradise but only few people have visited.

There are plenty things to do there. You can go sailing, take pictures, sunbathe, go snorkeling, go diving or simply observe the daily life of the 15,600 local residents on several of the islands.

The island nearest the mainland of Jakarta is Pulau Bidadari which can be reached in just 20 minutes by speedboat from the dock at Ancol Marina. The farthest is Pulau Sabira, 126 km north of Jakarta, is over two hours away by speedboat and it may take longer if you take a wooden ship from Muara Angke harbor.

There are so many islands that it’s hard to remember them like Pulau Rambut, Pulau Peteloran, Pulau Tidung and many more. However, there are only several islands that have accommodation and attractive holiday facilities like swimming pool, restaurants, snorkeling and diving equipment. They are Pulau Sepa, Bidadari, Ayer, Kulkul Kotok, Pelangi and Pantara.

The Thousands Islands are surely a place worth visiting during your holiday and moreover, they are close to the capital city, Jakarta.
